As social media marketers, the one rule of thumb we all quickly learn is that social media is always changing. And with every change, we must alter our clients’ social media strategies. It’s not just the new methods that we should start including in our strategies, but also the old methods that we need to boot immediately. Lately, we’ve noticed a few key tactics that are on their way out of social strategies (and you might not have even noticed!)
Less is more.
We’re learning more and more that the attention span of social media users is decreasing. In fact, you have 3 seconds to build an impression on someone. Unfortunately, this means we have to cut down on text and work more on visual content - photos, videos, infographics, etc. Say goodbye to the paragraphs of text, and say hello to your new video content curator (because you’ll need one!)
You don’t have to be everywhere at once.
Social media is great, but contrary to what everyone might think, you don’t need to have a presence on every social media platform. Because let’s be honest, you’d have to be working 80 hour weeks just to fulfill and create content for every network. Do your research and choose 3-4 platforms that will be the most beneficial to your brand. Focus all of your efforts there and you’ll be successful!
Organic growth is hard!
It’s not enough to simply post a few hashtags and hope for Facebook follower growth anymore. Unless your brand is incredibly unique and you have your entire marketing strategy magically working for you, you need to consider paid advertising. Throw a little bit of money behind your social media strategy & watch your brand grow! (But more on that in a blog to come...)
